The first Olympic games began in 776 BC .The games took place every four
years at Olympia in ancient Greece , but they stopped in 393 AD . In 1896 , a
Frenchman called Pierre de Coubertin started the Olympic Games again . There
were about 300 athletes , representing 13 countries . They took part in events such as
cycling , sprinting , weight-lifting , swimming , put shot , gymnastics and the marathon .
The five rings on the Olympic flag represent the five continents and the friendship
between nations .In 2008 , 202 countries and 11,099 athletes took part in the last
